Here, Home, Hope Book Review

I am a member of One2One network and they have offered me my first book to review. I normally don't review books but the subject matter on Here, Home, Hope by Kaira Rouda grabbed my attention. I am a 40 year old at home mom of 2 school aged children and so is Kelly Johnson, the main character in Here, Home, Hope. I can totally relate to Kellys wanting more out of life as she nears the midlife age that I have now reached too.

Although I am not an avid reader, I did enjoy this fictional book. I think that it is a good summer read for anyone wanting to escape the hum drum of their own ordinary life. This book has given me insight on new ways to approach tasks and opportunities. I am even inspired to start my own T2C (things to change) list and to see what comes next in my life.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book from One2One Network to faciliate my review. The opinions are my own.

My Cascade Complete 24 Hour Challenge Review & Giveaway CLOSED

I am a member of myblogspark and they have teamed up with Cascade Complete for this fun opportunity. I was sent a sample of Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs along with a new baking dish so that I could take the 24 Hour Challenge.

My challenge was to bake a dish and let the pan sit for 24 hours. I chose to bake a cherry pie dump cake. After we enjoyed our dessert, I put the empty, unwashed, unrinsed dish in the dishwasher with my Cascade Action Pac and let it go through the complete wash cycle as it was. To my surprise, the dish came out clean and crumb free. I was amazed at my effortless results. I love that Cascade Complete All-in-1 ActionPacs break down, dissolve, and rinse away tough food particles, leaving my hands free and my dishes sparkling clean.

Verizon FiOS

I am a member of socialmoms and they have teamed up with Verizon FiOS for this fun blogging opportunity. You may read more about that request here.

Verizon FiOS is a bundled home communications package that includes internet, telephone, and television service. Verizon FiOs operates over a fiber-optic communications network. Verizon has attracted both consumer and media attention in the area of broadband Internet access as the first major U.S. carrier to offer fiber-optic communications to the home premises. They have received top ratings from Consumer Reports among cable television and Internet service providers.

I love that Verizon FiOs is more weather resistant and more durable than the copper phone lines or coaxial cable. Their advanced fiber optic technology allows my family to watch HDTV with less interruptions, pixelation, or weather interference than tradional services. This technology is important to my family. There isn't much worse than my daughter losing a station during her favorite show. Her inevitble cry of "mom the tv went out again" could be avoided with Verizon FiOs.

My family also would love Verizon FiOs because we would be better prepared for the future and for all of the new internet tools that will coming our way. The massive bandwidth of a 100% fiber-optic network connects directly to the home and would allow for super fast downloading of both shows and programs on our home computer. This would save us a lot of time and "Mom when will this finish downloading?" conversations. My reply of "honey, I honestly don't know how long it will take" can be replaced with a quick "see, it's already done." Now, wouldn't that be sweet!

I would love the Flex View portion of Verizon FiOs. With Flex View, you can buy, rent and watch on-demand video titles on your FiOS TV, on your computer or on your mobile phone. There are many times that I fall asleep during a movie at home and I would love to be able to finish watching it from my cell phone. I could also see Flex View being handy because my children will start watching a movie at home when I am getting ready to go somewhere. We will have to leave home before the show is over. Many arguments of "Mom, I am not finished watching that" could be saved with a nice little "here, you can finish watching it in the car on my cell phone." Plus the convenience of being able to DVR my favorite shows from the internet or my cell phone would rock too! That's technology!

According to the 2010 American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Survey for the largest subscription TV service providers, Verizon FiOS TV was rated #1 in value, overall quality and customer loyalty. This rating gives me the assurance that Verizon FiOs is a tried and true, trusted product for my family. I feel that my family deserves the best and I am aching to give them the service of Verizon FiOs.

I also figure that if J.D. Power and Associates ranked FiOS the "Highest in Residential Television Service Satisfaction in the East Region," three years in a row, then it is good enough for my family. Don't you agree?

Family Fun

I am an at home mom and my number one rule is to have fun. I believe that if our daily routine is fun, it will help our children to know what to expect and our day will run smoother.

We make our morning time together fun. I like to wake my children up with a big hug and a quick snuggle. This is our little special time together and we all enjoy it. A little love and a lot of fun can help jump start the day the right way.

Choosing our school clothes for the next day is fun. My children like to express their individual personalities in the clothes that they wear. At night we go through their drawers and closets to pick out their outfits for the next day. I find that choosing our clothes the night before saves us a lot of time in the morning.

Going to school can be fun too. Both of my children are in public school full time. I always ask them how was their day and I make sure to really listen to them. I always hit on the fun aspects of school. I make sure to ask about music, p.e., computer class, lunch and their friends. I want them to enjoy going to school and I want them to know that I really do care about how their day was.

I like to have fun with my children by making homework and learning fun. We sing little songs to help us learn our spelling words. The tunes we sing are catchy and it helps make the spelling work easier for them. I find that if we make homework fun, the children will fuss less and endure the work better. My children show pride in their school work and it shows on their report cards.

I encourage my children to read because reading is fun. My son will read his library book at least 3 times a week for school. His favorite time to read is right before his lights go out for the night. My daughter is 6 years old and she is learning how to read. We love to read a bed time story before her lights go out. Reading before bed is a fun way to unwind and to settle in for the night. It gives us a little bit of quite time that we enjoy and look forward too.

We enjoy a daily snack together. Snack time can be both fun and educational at the same time. Yesterday I let my children create their own snack. I gave them a tortilla, peanut butter, banana and strawberry jelly. The snack was nutrious and they had a blast creating their own masterpiece. They ate every bite without a single complaint. Plus they had fun!

Dinner time can be fun also! I like for my children to help me prepare our dinner and menu. Last night we had meatball subs, salad, tomatoes, baby carrots and ranch salad dressing. My children helped by arranging the veggies on our plates. They will eat their veggies better if they help create the dish that they are in. This dinner time fun allows them to be creative and helpful at the same time.

We also make exercise fun and a family event. My kids love to exercise and they are both involved in after school sports. My son is currently playing baseball and he will start football in the fall. My daughter is playing her first year of T-Ball now too. I love that sports teach our children that exercise is fun and rewarding.

We try to have fun even if we are driving to town or to a doctor appointment. Car rides can be fun too if you try. We like to have learning challenges in the car when we drive. I ask my kids to work a math problem that I give them and sometimes we will spell their spelling words for the week also. This game is not only fun but it helps to pass time nicely also.

I would love to hear about how you make your family life fun. Life is too short to be serious all the time. I find that my job as a parent is so much easier if I can make every day go by smoothly. A little fun definately doesn't hurt either!
